De-Skunking Your Dog
The following article was composed from a post written by Ellen Morris.
The "magical" de-skunking recipe was given to Ellen by Deenie Galipeau.
Forget the tomato juice - that'll just
make a pale dog look pink! The best way to get rid of that horrible
skunk smell is to carefully follow this recipe...
First of all, try to remove any visible "skunk slime" from your dog's
fur with an old rag, towel, or plenty of paper towel. Throw away the
rags or towels in plenty of plastic bags, and leave them outside!
In a large bucket, mix together:
1 quart (or litre) 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
Equal amount of tap water
2 tablespoons of baking soda
1 tsp. of Dawn dish detergent
Thoroughly wet your dog's fur with the above mix, and let it soak for 30
minutes. Rinse well with fresh water, and repeat if needed.
For a Labrador-sized dog, you will need one to two 1 quart bottles of
Hydrogen Peroxide. Do not mix these ingredients in advance, as the mix
MUST be "freshly" made for it to be effective.
WARNING: Do not store store this mix in an air-tight bottle, as pressure
will build up, and may cause the bottle to explode. Back to Pawsitive Advice
